Botox & Fillers Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is the world’s leading noninvasive treatment for temporarily reducing the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. It’s an injectable medication created from a neurotoxin known as Clostridium botulinum, which is found naturally in soil, lakes, and forests.

Botox is carefully formulated to be a safe and effective way to alter muscle contraction. When injected into targeted muscles, the medication prevents those muscle fibers from going through their full range of motion. You’ll still be able to create normal facial expressions, but the muscles won’t be able to tug and pull your skin into undesirable lines and wrinkles.

Having Botox takes just a few moments, and you’ll be able to return to normal activities immediately afterward. It takes 24-48 hours for the full effects to develop, and those results last around four months, at which time you can decide if you’d like to come back in for another round of treatments.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that work to replace lost volume or enhance volume in specific areas of your face. As you age, your body naturally loses much of the collagen layer that smooths and plumps your skin. Without that support, your skin begins to sag and pool into lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Dermal fillers are formulated from a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid, a substance your body produces naturally. There are many different fillers to choose from, each created for specific areas of the face. Thicker fillers are great for deep lines in your cheeks, while thinner formulations are perfect for use around your eyes and lip lines.

Dermal fillers are temporary, although some options last for many months. Research shows that fillers also prompt your body to produce new collagen and elastin, which creates lasting results.

What is a liquid facelift?

The term “liquid facelift” is used to refer to a combination of injectable aesthetic treatments like Botox and dermal fillers. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, these tools can create beautiful and natural-looking results, all without the risks and recovery time of plastic surgery.
